Join your friends and neighbors at the Downtown Denver National Night Out event at Skyline Park on August 6 from 4:30-7:30 PM. Once again, LoDoNA is joining the Upper Downtown Neighborhood Association (UpDoNA) and the Downtown Denver Partnership (DDP) to organize and sponsor our community’s National Night Out event from 4:30 to 7:30pm at Skyline Park (Arapahoe Street between 15th and 16th Streets).
Every year, thousands of communities across the US organize National Night Out events on the first Tuesday in August. They are community-building events that promote stronger connections between people who live and work in the neighborhoods and the police, fire, EMTs and others that serve them.
Despite the challenges of the 16th Street Mall reconstruction project, threatening skies and intermittent rain showers, we had a great event last August, attended by over 200 people including Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas, District 6 Commander Kim Bowser with officers and horses from the Mounted Patrol Unit. Denver Fire was represented by firefighters and fire trucks from Station 4 and Station 6 including Captain Mike Morris. RTD Police brought eight officers and Max from their K9 unit. The EMTs from Denver Health attended and conducted demonstrations on how to perform CPR in an emergency. Mayor Mike Johnston and City Councilors Amanda Sandoval and Darrell Watson also spoke to the crowd.
2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the National Night Out program. We are planning an even bigger and better Downtown Denver National Night Out event this year. Construction on the 16th Street Mall project has turned a corner—the pavers and trees are installed and the construction fences on Blocks 1 to 3 (from Market Street to Arapahoe Street) should be gone so we all can get a glimpse of the future of Downtown Denver’s Main Street.
We will have free food and drinks provided by Pepsi and Bimbo Bakeries USA, and plenty of games, music and other entertainment. Downtown hotels, restaurants and retailers are also providing raffle prizes.
