On September 9, the Director of Excise and Licenses issued an order affirming the Hearing Officer’s decision approving the request for a new Tavern license at 1437 Market St. No appeals have been filed, and on September 25 Greg Gallagher, the owner of the tavern, to be called Gaslamp, signed a Good Neighbor Agreement providing a number of protections to the LoDo area. As was made clear, the opposition to the new Tavern had nothing to do with Greg personally, and LoDoNA welcomes him to Market St. and assumes he will be a good operator.
On September 16, there was supposed to be a hearing on the application of Zaidy’s, 15th and Lawrence, for a Dance Cabaret license. The operators appeared without either a lawyer or a Board resolution authorizing them to represent the corporation. The hearing Officer said that the hearing could not proceed because of this failure and that he would issue a decision recommending that the application be dismissed, which he has since done. A week later, Westword reported that Jason Rudofsky, one of the owners of Zaidy’s, intended to sell the establishment. This development is at least a temporary fix for several Writer Square residents.
Partly as a result of the hearing on 1437 Market and near hearing on Zaidy’s, LoDoNA and DDRO have concluded that the timing is right for a Quality of Life Forum to address several items of ongoing interest, including bar operations, new applications and related items. More details will be provided shortly. Everyone interested in these issues is urged to attend. In the meantime, you can help LoDoNA’s Board and Good Neighbor Committee by responding to the survey circulated in early September, which touches on a number of quality of life issues in LoDo and the Central Platte Valley. For information on the survey if you have not yet responded, contact Josh Davies at daviesjt@gmail.com.

Thanks to a suggestion made by Paula Grey, a member of the Good Neighbor Committee Board, the Good Neighbor Committee has ceated an Ambassador Program designed to promote good relations between residents and restaurant, bar/tavern and caberet establishments in the LODONA area. Members of the Good Neighbor Board have been assigned specific establishments with the intent for them to meet with the establishments on a regular basis in order to get to know the owners and managers and to promote good relationships in the LODO community. In this way problems can be resolved before they occur and residents and establishments can exist in a harmonious environment
