The only notable street closures this weekend are around the Civic Center for the annual Taste of Colorado and near the Sports Authority on Broadway at 10th for the annual Sniagrab Sale. That’s bargains spelled backwards as we all know from growing up with the Gart’s.

Closer to Five Points, the Electric Avenue Music & Arts Festival, Saturday and Sunday, on Welton Street between 26th and 27th. Frankly, it’s a little pricey, but if you check their website here, you get a great free song to listen to. The song, itself, might inspire you and your tastebuds to go to the Taste of Colorado. Proceed at your own risk.

And, don’t forget to be careful as Saturday carries on after the CU-CSU football game. They will find their way here. Enjoy the long weekend. Street parking is free Sunay and Monday, and a few people will show up for Monday afternoon’s Rockies game. A few. Be careful crossing the streets.

Saturday, August 28. The LoDo No-Garage Garage Sale is taking up the block of Wynkoop between 15th Street and Manny’s Bridge. And, the event sold out for vendor space, so expect lots of good deals from 8 in the morning until 1 in the afternoon. 40 sellers selling stuff! Take it away!

Normal construction projects close a lane here and there all over Downtown this weekend with the biggest on-going job on Larimer Street between 15th and 20th. They are getting serious there.

And, not only will the Rockies draw big crowds all weekend, but your Denver Broncos will be playing Sunday evening. Watch for the “This is Steelers Country” display on the Hardware Block balcony along 15th. That’s a traffic stopper.

Plenty of bad drivers will descend on Downtown this weekend. Be careful crossing the streets!

Well, sorry, but this weekend is going to be dull. Sure, they are still working on 15th Street west of Little Raven, but the crosswalk and lane painting points to that project being nearly done for now. And, Larimer Street construction continues between 15th and 20th. And, frankly, the construction looks better than the continuing re-make of Writer Square. Not only did they recently bless us with a Subway Sandwich shop, but rumor has a Taco Bell about to join this formerly pleasant mixed-use development turned strip mall.

Of course, you could take the tots to the Lego Mobile Tour blocking Glenarm between 15th and 17th this weekend. At the Pavilions, it’s free fun with little plastic bricks. Hmmm. Sounds like a perfect weekend to go to the mountains for a family wedding. So, we are!

But, not to worry. Street impact will be minimal this weekend if you don’t count the mess on 15th west of Little Raven and the enlarging craters that used to be Larimer Street between 15th and 20th. Both of those until early September.

Then, at the other end, 14th Avenue between Broadway and Lincoln will be off limits on Sunday for some more demolition. (If you have been by there lately, how do you think that building used to be supported by those skinny little columns that remain?)

And, the mystery closure of the week: One lane, the Wazee Lounge side, of 15th Street closed until mid-day on Saturday for…a Hot Tub Delivery! Someone is reaching to the sky for a new hot tub. We’ll try to report who later.

And, oh yeah, the Rockies have crawled back to town for a weekend series with the Brewers. Expect crowds and bad driving. Be careful crossing the streets!

This weekend is quiet. No GAGA, no Rockies. 15th Street west of Little Raven is still a mess and will be until early September. The Larimer Street re-set will continue until about the middle of September, between 15th and 20th.

Event-wise, look for the Rocky Mountain LocalPalooza to take up the entire Civic Center on Saturday. (Will someone please tell us what this is?) Then, check out the Firefighter’s Appreciation Day on Saturday, also, at 14th and Tremont. And, visit the Denver Firefighters’ Museum there. Great fun for kids of all ages!

And, finally, in the world of bicycles, the annual Bannock Street Criterium Races will take up part of the Golden Triangle on Sunday. All day, watch races on Bannock and Acoma between 9th and 12th, and 11th and 12th between Acoma and Delaware. A full day of fast criterium racing!

More of the same this weekend, July 30-August 1. Just the usual small projects that dot the landscape, plus the on-going work on Larimer Street and 15th Street west of LoDo. It’s a mess.

And, watch for heavy traffic Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoon when the Rockies host those pesky Cubs.

The only closure we could find, is Saturday for 19th Street at the Skate Park. The event is an all day musical one put on by 1 Liquid House, a non-profit that provides positive activity venues for teens in the community. Read about the good work they do HERE.

Skate Park events are pretty interesting to watch! Be careful crossing the streets!

(Street Closure information for the neighborhood is culled from the City and County of Denver and provided by Denver by the Slice, a blog about living in Downtown Denver, edited by David Huntress. For other on-going news and views, visit www.denverbytheslice.com)

The weekend (starting July 23) promises some closed streets, some busy streets and some varietal events. First of all, construction continues on 15th Street between Little Raven and Boulder Street. It’s a mess. And, Larimer is being re-aligned between 15th and 20th, and has some lanes torn up in the process, scheduled to last into September. No one we know actually drives on Wewatta Street, but it remains one-lane each way.

Event-wise, one will close, or, at least, heavily use some neighborhood streets. The Scooter Hero Ride and Walk will benefit kids who are considered vulnerable, a good cause. In the process, on Saturday afternoon about 4, a few hundred scooters and walkers will leave the Pepsi Center, cross on Wewatta, to 15th, to Wynkoop, to 19th, to Blake, to 15th, back to Wewatta and back to the Pepsi Center.

At about the same time, the Riverfront Fashion Series will get going at Riverfront, partying merrily into the evening.

And, at about the same time, gather at the Union Station Fence for some Yarn Bombing with the Lady’s Fancywork Society Workshop art project.

Or, you can leave all that behind, and venture over to Sloan Lake for the Dragon Boat Festival Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday, and we’re not sure exactly how it works, but there is an event called the Urban Assualt Ride, involving teams of riders running all over town and eventually turning into beer drinkers at Skyline Park. Here’s their website. Maybe you can figure it out!

Be careful crossing the streets!

In partnership with DDRO, Ballpark Neighborhood Association, Golden Triangle Neighborhood Association, and the Lower Downtown District, LoDoNA presented the 2010 Downtown Denver Neighborhoods Candidate Forum on July 21st.

The standing-room only event, held at the Wynkoop Brewing Company, featured candidates and representatives from both the Colorado House and Senate races as well as the US Senate and Gubernatorial races. More than 60 residents of the near downtown neighborhoods learned more about the candidates and important issues facing voters this election.

Special thank you to Chrisanta Duran and Mark Thrun (both Democratic candidates for House District 5)for participating in the highlight of the event, a debate on the most pressing issues facing Colorado in the coming year.
