LoDo Cares

LoDo Cares — One of LoDoNA’s major initiatives is supporting LoDo Cares.  LoDo Cares is a philanthropic partnership between LoDoNA and LoDo District, Inc. that connects and improves our community by working to enhance the experience of those who live, work and play in LoDo and nearby communities.  LoDo Cares started as a group of volunteers serving the Barth Hotel residents.  The Barth Hotel is an assisted living center at 18th and Blake in LoDo.  Since then LoDo Cares has become a lead coordinator for local volunteer opportunities in the community. Efforts include serving the residents of The Barth Hotel, beautifying our parks and neighborhood, and addressing the needs of the homeless.

LoDo is the first “neighborhood” in a worldwide campaign of compassionate cities to be recognized by Charter for Compassion International.

Eventbrite - Jazz Up The Holidays

Last holiday season, it was brought to the attention of the LoDo Cares Committee that there was a LoDo neighbor in need. Our very own Barth Hotel (The Barth) was without critical kitchen appliances and dining room furniture, which made preparing and serving meals for their residents a significant challenge.

Recognizing such a concern, in 2015, LoDo Cares decided to start a new holiday tradition of its own. Funds from our annual Holiday Project fundraiser would go towards giving the 62 residents of The Barth a better dining experience, and thus, the opportunity to create friendships and memories over a good meal. We are continuing our tradition in 2016 by donating all funds raised during this year’s Holiday Project to The Barth for additional kitchen purchases and repairs.

The Barth is truly a LoDo institution, both for its history and its cause. For those unfamiliar with its mission, The Barth is an assisted living facility dedicated to providing affordable housing and services in a caring environment for seniors and adults with disabilities. Because of its reliance on government funding and private donations, The Barth does not always have the means to provide or improve amenities, like refurbishing dining space or adding much needed kitchen equipment.

Last year, Holiday Project donors raised enough for The Barth to purchase a walk-in freezer, a much needed addition for food storage. This year, we would like to be able to provide the Barth with the funds for a new dishwasher, worktop refrigerator and/or an ice machine. These appliances will make a tremendous difference by streamlining productivity in the kitchen and helping to provide fresher and more nutritious meal options.

Both LoDo Cares and The Barth appreciate any amount you can contribute, but of course, the more you can give, the more impact we can have. To learn more about The Holiday Project, The Barth Hotel or to donate, visit the LoDo Cares website, www.lodo.org/lodocares.
